Structure before polish

A model can spend its effort on gradients, shadows, and smooth curves and still drop a wheel, a beak, or the fact that one object is supposed to be inside another. Sketchbench treats those missing relations as the result. A clumsy outline that keeps the parts is more useful here than a glossy picture that loses one of them.

1. What did the sentence name? List the nouns before you look: a pelican and a bicycle, an octopus and a grand piano, a snail, a helmet, and a skateboard.

3. Can you point to each noun as its own shape? If the beak is the handlebar, you do not have both objects. You have a blend.

5. What was supposed to touch? Riding means the rider is on the vehicle. Pouring means pot, stream or tilt, and cup. Reading means the page is in front of the face.

7. Does the silhouette still say it when you squint? Small size is a fair test. Decoration that only works at full zoom is polish.

How a card is organized

The title and the one-line challenge tell you the reading in advance. The dark block is the only text you copy. “What to look for” is three to five checkpoints about parts and contact. “Common failure modes” names the usual collapses, not a grade. The sample gallery is empty on purpose: model name and date are fields, and they stay blank until a self-run image is placed there. The questions at the bottom answer the edge cases for that sentence.

A short reading of the pelican

The sentence is “Generate an SVG of a pelican riding a bicycle.” Simon Willison made this kind of one-line request a familiar informal check: not a lab protocol, just a way to see if a picture of a bird on a bike holds together. On this card, pass the structure when you can find one long beak, one bird, two wheels on a frame, and a body that meets the bike. Fail it when a person does the riding, when the wheels float, or when the beak and the bars are the same stroke. Do not add points for a sunset. Do not publish that reading as a ranking. One drawing is an anecdote.

SVG is not required to be clever

SVG 不必耍聪明

The prompts ask for SVG so the result is shapes rather than a photograph. You do not need to audit the markup. If the tool returns a PNG, or an SVG full of one embedded image, you can still ask the five questions of the picture. What you should not do is treat a clean viewBox, a tidy group name, or a gradient as evidence that the pelican is on the bicycle.

• It will not call a model, host a key, or generate a picture when you press copy.

• It will not score IQ, ELO, or a leaderboard. The same sentence in two tools is a comparison you can make yourself, and it stays yours.
